Sustainable Energy - Olivia and Anna. 15th September 2011

Last week a man called Mark Adamson came to talk to four lucky students from each class about Environmentally Sustainable Energy.

He talked about the different types of generation, renewable vs. non-renewable energy, about how NZ generates our power, future energy options and all about wind turbines.

We learnt that NZ uses 70% of renewable energy sources, compared to other countries that aren’t even at 15%. So we are doing very well.

The future energy sources for NZ are going to be Hydro, Geothermal, Wind, Solar power and as an emergency backup coil, oil or diesel.

We learnt all about Wind turbines, how they work and what they produce. They cost a lot of money to make and put up but what they give back to us is worth far more money.

It was a very valuable talk and we were very grateful that Mark came to talk to us.
